Quick Start Workflow
Pin Traffic Studio is designed as a campaign workflow. Build several pins, edit them one by one, schedule reusable Planner occurrences, prepare Pinterest details only when needed, and export finished images or portable campaign backups.
New campaign
1Choose how to browseChoose a Style to see one collection, or use View All Templates to browse across styles.
2Select templatesTick one or more templates, then click Create Campaign.
3Edit Pin 1Use Pin Content & Design, the Smart Inspector, Layers, and the canvas to finish the first design.
4Optional: add to PlannerClick Add to Planner, choose a date, confirm the occurrence, then set its reminder time if needed.
5Edit the next pinSelect another pin from Campaign Pins and repeat the editing and planning steps.
6Optional: Pinterest WizardUse Post to Pinterest when you want title, description, board, URL, topics, keywords, alt text, and upload preparation.
7Save and back upUse Save for app storage and Export → Export Campaign Backup for a portable editable backup.
8Export finished workOpen Export and choose the active-pin or campaign-wide output you need.
Continue an existing campaign
- Open Pin Traffic Studio.
- Click Open Saved Campaign on the Style Gallery, Load Saved Campaign from the Style or Template Gallery, or Load inside the Editor.
- To open a portable backup, use Import → Import Campaign Backup in the Editor.
- Select the pin you want to continue editing.
- Save again after meaningful changes.
- For important work, also keep an exported Campaign Backup file outside the app.
- Only one campaign opens in the Editor at a time. Loading another campaign replaces the open workspace after the unsaved-change warning.
1. Style Gallery
The Style Gallery is the starting screen. It keeps the template library organised by visual direction.
Choose one style
- Review the style preview cards.
- Click the style that best fits the campaign.
- The Template Gallery opens with that style's templates.
- Select templates and create the campaign.
Browse every template
- Click View All Templates.
- Scroll through the combined template view.
- Select visible templates from one or more styles.
- Use Select All Visible or Clear when useful.
- Click Create Campaign.
- Load Saved Campaign: Opens the Campaign Library so you can choose a saved campaign without selecting a new template first. Use Delete inside the library to remove saved campaigns you no longer need.
- Import Custom Templates: Imports a custom-template library file.
- Export Custom Templates: Downloads the custom-template library for backup or transfer.
- Dark UI: Changes the app interface only. It does not change exported pin colours.
2. Template Gallery
The Template Gallery shows approved preview images, template purpose, image-slot count, and best-use notes.
Create a campaign from selected templates
- Click or tick the template cards you want.
- Select one template for a single-pin campaign or several templates for a batch campaign.
- Use Select All when you want the whole active style collection.
- Use Clear to remove the current selection.
- Click Create Campaign with Selected Templates.
- The Editor opens with one campaign pin for every selected template.
Tip: a visually consistent campaign is often easier to build when the selected templates share a related style, palette, or campaign purpose.
3. Editor Workspace
The Editor is the main design workspace. The current pin appears on the 1000 × 1500 canvas and the campaign stays available in the left-side pin list.
| Area / Button | What it does |
| Campaign Pins | Shows every pin in the current campaign. Click a pin to make it active. Use the ⋮ menu to duplicate a pin or remove it from the campaign. |
| Layers | Selects images, panels, text, brand text, or groups for editing and movement. |
| Canvas | Shows the active pin. Selected moveable objects can be dragged directly on the canvas. |
| Smart Inspector | Shows the selected Image, Text, Panel, or Group tools first, then keeps Pin Content & Design available below in one scroll area. |
| Planner | Opens the Planner normally for review and calendar management. |
| Add to Planner | Opens the Planner in date-selection mode for the current pin. |
| Post to Pinterest | Opens the separate Pinterest Wizard for the current pin. |
| Save / Save as New / Load | Save updates the current library campaign, Save as New creates a separate saved copy, and Load opens the Campaign Library. |
| Reset This Pin | Resets the active pin layout while keeping wording, uploaded images, Pinterest details, and Planner links. |
| Unsaved Changes | The toolbar status warns when the current campaign has edits that have not been saved yet. |
| Import ▼ | Imports Custom Templates or a portable Campaign Backup. |
| Export ▼ | Groups active-pin exports first, followed by campaign-wide ZIP, CSV, text, and backup exports. |
Recommended way to work through a multi-pin campaign
- Select the first pin in Campaign Pins.
- Finish its text, images, colours, layout, and layers.
- Optionally click Add to Planner and choose a date.
- Return to the Editor.
- Select the next pin and repeat.
- Use the Pinterest Wizard only for pins you are ready to prepare for Pinterest.
4. Smart Inspector
The Editor no longer requires switching between separate editing tabs. The selected element’s tools appear first, with Pin Content & Design below them in one continuous Inspector scroll area.
- Pin Content & Design: Edit headline, supporting copy, brand/URL text, template-specific fields, and background settings without changing modes.
- Select an Image: Upload/Replace and Reset appear first, followed by image slot, move, zoom, rotate, fit, centre, and frame-size controls.
- Select Text: The selected text content is edited once in the Text tools, followed by typography, colour, alignment, emphasis, line spacing, size, position, and selected-word styling.
- Select a Panel: Panel movement mode, position, size, and colour controls appear automatically.
- Select a Group: The Inspector explains the group workflow while movement and resizing remain on the canvas and group management remains in Layers.
- Template-aware controls: Template-specific content fields are shown only when the current template supports them. Irrelevant fields stay hidden.
Select the object you want to edit. The Smart Inspector changes tools automatically, so there is no need to remember which tab contains a function.
5. Layers, Grouping & Selection
The Layers panel determines what the Editor is changing. Selecting a layer also tells the Smart Inspector which editing tools to show automatically.
Select and move one layer
- Click the required layer in the Layers list or select it on the canvas.
- Confirm that the correct object is highlighted.
- Drag it directly on the canvas or use the relevant position controls.
- Use the visible resize handles when the selected layer supports direct resizing.
Group several layers
- Use the layer checkboxes to select the layers that belong together.
- Click Group Selected.
- Select the new group.
- Drag or resize the group as one unit.
- Click Ungroup when the layers need to be edited separately again.
- Reorder layers: Drag layer rows up or down in the Layers panel to change stacking order.
- Template-specific text: Text inside major badges, labels, callouts, comparison strips, checklist areas, and similar design objects appears as a named editable text layer when the template uses it.
- Decorative children: Tiny icons, dividers, and ornaments that belong to a panel stay attached to that parent panel and move with it rather than cluttering Layers with unnecessary entries.
- Delete Selected: Hides selected layers from the design without permanently destroying the template structure.
- Restore Deleted: Brings hidden layers back.
- Reset Layer Order: Restores the template's original stacking order.
- Panel + Text Together: When the Panel layer is selected, this mode moves the panel and text together.
Select a layer first, then drag that highlighted object on the canvas. The Editor gives the selected layer priority when objects overlap, so a large image or panel does not take control of the drag by mistake.
6. Images & Frames
Select an image layer or image slot and the Smart Inspector automatically shows the matching Image tools. Always confirm the correct image is selected before changing it.
Replace an image
- Select the image layer in Layers, or choose the required Image Slot.
- Click Upload / Replace Selected Image.
- Choose the image file.
- Use Fit if the crop needs a clean starting point.
- Adjust zoom, rotation, and photo position as needed.
Move photo versus move frame
- Move Photo Inside Frame: The frame stays fixed while the photo moves within it.
- Move Frame + Photo Together: The entire frame and the photo inside it move together.
- Photo Zoom / Rotation: Changes the photo inside the frame.
- Frame Width / Height: Changes the size of the image frame itself.
- Centre / Fit: Quickly recentres or refits the active image.
- Reset Photo Position: Resets the photo crop position.
- Reset Frame Position: Returns the frame to its original position.
- Reset Frame Size: Returns the frame to its original dimensions.
- Reset Selected Image: Clears the selected image slot back to its template state.
7. Text & Typography
Select a text layer on the canvas or in Layers and the Smart Inspector automatically shows its Text tools. Templates may include Headline, Subheadline, Brand, Number, CTA, badge, module, or other special text layers.
Edit a complete text layer
- Select the text layer in Layers or on the canvas.
- The Smart Inspector automatically opens the matching Text tools.
- Edit the text in the selected text content box.
- Choose font, size, colour, alignment, bold, italic, line spacing, and position as needed.
- Use the canvas handles for normal visual resizing where supported.
- Use Reset Selected Text Position if the layer needs to return to its original location.
Style only selected words
- Select the correct text layer.
- Highlight the word or words inside the text editing box.
- Choose Selected Words Size or Selected Words Colour if required.
- Use the Selected Words Bold or Italic controls.
- Use Clear Selected Words Style to remove styling from the highlighted words.
- Use Clear All Word Styling in This Layer to remove all partial-word styling from that text layer.
- Main Pin Text: Edits the main headline and can help prefill the Pinterest Title.
- Secondary Pin Text: Edits supporting copy and can help prefill Topic / Product.
- Brand / URL: Edits small brand or website text on the design.
- Manual line breaks: Use them when you want exact headline stacking.
- Reset to Palette: Restores text colours to the selected palette.
8. Backgrounds & Panels
Background and panel controls affect different design parts. A background is the base canvas area. A panel is a card, strip, frame, block, or shape placed on top of the background.
Change the background
- Use the always-available Design & Background section in the Smart Inspector.
- Choose Template Default, Solid Colour, or Gradient.
- For Solid Colour, choose one colour.
- For Gradient, choose both colours and adjust the angle.
- Use Reset Background when you want the template's original background again.
Reset the active pin safely
- Click Reset This Pin in the Editor toolbar.
- Confirm the warning.
- The app keeps the pin wording, uploaded images, Pinterest details, and Planner links.
- Layout, positions, sizes, colours, selected-word styling, layer order, hidden/restored layers, groups, and panel/image adjustments return to the original template defaults.
Use Reset This Pin when a design has been moved too far and you want a clean template layout without losing the words or uploaded images.
Move or resize a panel
- Select the Panel layer, or click Select Panel Layer.
- Choose a movement mode:
Move Panel Only, Move Panel + Text Together, or Move Text Only.
- Use the panel position controls or drag where supported.
- Adjust panel width and height when the template supports panel resizing.
- Use Reset Panel Position, Reset Panel Size, or Reset Panel Colour as needed.
Move Panel + Text Together is the safest choice when the text visually belongs to the card or panel and should stay aligned with it.
9. Planner & Reminders
The Planner stores separate calendar occurrences linked to reusable campaign pins. The same pin design can be planned on several dates without overwriting earlier Posted history. Planner dates and reminders do not publish automatically to Pinterest.
Add the active Editor pin
- Select the pin you want in the Editor.
- Click Add to Planner.
- The Planner opens in date-selection mode and shows the selected pin thumbnail and name.
- Click a calendar day.
- Confirm Yes, Add Pin.
- A new Planner occurrence is created. Existing occurrences for the same pin are unchanged.
Reuse any campaign pin
- Open the Planner.
- Click Add Campaign Pin.
- The visual picker shows every campaign pin, including pins already used in the Planner.
- Select any pin, choose a new date, and confirm.
- A new independent occurrence is added while previous Planner history remains intact.
Reminder settings
- Open the Planner and click Reminder Settings.
- Turn Enable Planner Reminders on or off. This is the master reminder switch.
- Choose the Default Reminder Time.
- Click Save Reminder Settings.
- New occurrences inherit the current default reminder time. Each occurrence can then use its own time or have Remind Me turned off.
The current reminder system uses one reminder for each active occurrence, at that occurrence's planned date and Reminder Time. There is no day-before reminder and no repeat reminder cycle.
Change one occurrence
- Click an occurrence card on the Planner calendar.
- Change the Planned Date if needed.
- Turn Remind Me on or off.
- Choose the Reminder Time for that occurrence.
- Click Save Changes.
- The change applies only to that occurrence. Other dates using the same campaign pin are unaffected.
How the persistent reminder works
In the Windows desktop app, the native reminder engine checks the saved schedule in the background. At the exact reminder time, Pin Traffic Studio opens a compact persistent reminder window for the exact Planner occurrence. The reminder stays visible until you choose Pin Now or Dismiss. No Windows notification permission is required.
- Pin Now: Opens the exact linked campaign pin in Pinterest Wizard Step 1 and keeps the app open.
- Dismiss: Closes the active reminder. If more future reminders remain and the app was in background mode, Pin Traffic Studio returns to the tray; otherwise the background process can exit.
- Active reminder protection: Closing the app window does not silently discard an active reminder. Handle it with Pin Now or Dismiss.
- Posted occurrences: Occurrences marked Posted are removed from the future reminder schedule.
- Reminder Off: Turning Remind Me off for one occurrence prevents that occurrence from scheduling a reminder.
Close the app while reminders are pending
If future reminders are pending, closing the main Windows app with X hides Pin Traffic Studio and keeps the reminder engine running in the system tray. If no future reminders are pending, the app closes normally.
- Left-click tray icon: Opens Pin Traffic Studio normally.
- Open Due Pin: Opens the latest due Planner occurrence when one is available.
- Open Pin Traffic Studio: Opens the main app normally.
- Quit Pin Traffic Studio: Fully exits the background process. Reminders cannot appear while the app is fully quit.
Several reminders become due
Due reminders are handled one at a time. While one persistent reminder is active, the next due reminder waits until the active reminder is handled.
Planner overview
- Planned Today: Not Posted occurrences scheduled for today.
- Upcoming: Future Not Posted occurrences.
- Overdue: Past-date occurrences that are still Not Posted.
- Total Occurrences: Every calendar occurrence currently stored in the Planner.
- Posted: Occurrences manually marked Posted.
- Not Posted: All Planner occurrences not yet marked Posted.
Move an occurrence by drag and drop
- Find the occurrence card in the calendar.
- Click and hold the card.
- Drag it over another calendar day.
- Release when the destination day highlights.
- Confirm Yes, Move Pin.
- Only that occurrence moves. Other occurrences for the same campaign pin stay on their own dates, and the native reminder schedule re-synchronizes.
Manage, post, or remove an occurrence
- Click an occurrence card without dragging it.
- Use Pin Now to open that exact pin in the Pinterest Wizard immediately.
- Use Mark as Posted or Mark as Not Posted for that occurrence only.
- Use Open in Editor to edit the linked campaign pin design.
- Use Remove Occurrence to delete only this calendar entry.
- Use Remove Pin from Campaign only when you intend to delete the reusable campaign pin and every Planner occurrence linked to it.
- Multiple dates for one pin: Allowed and useful for evergreen or repeat-posting campaigns.
- Multiple pins on one day: Also allowed.
- Planner CSV: Exports one row per occurrence, including date, Posted status, linked campaign pin, reminder On/Off state, and reminder time.
Simple rule: a campaign pin is the reusable design; a Planner occurrence is one dated use of that design. Deleting one occurrence keeps the pin. Deleting the campaign pin removes all of its occurrences.
10. Pinterest Wizard
The Pinterest Wizard is optional and separate from the Planner. Use it to prepare metadata and a manual Pinterest upload workflow for the current pin.
Open the Wizard
- Select the pin you want in the Editor.
- Click Post to Pinterest.
- The separate Pinterest Wizard opens for that active pin.
- Use Back to Editor whenever you want to return to design editing.
Step 1 — Setup + Generate
- Enter Topic / Product.
- Choose or enter the audience information.
- Choose purpose, goal, tone, description voice/style, and call to action.
- Enter the Destination URL. The app adds https:// when needed.
- Use Use Pin Text when you want the current design text to help prefill Wizard fields.
- Generate individual fields or choose Generate All & Continue.
- Choose Continue Without Generating when you prefer to write everything manually.
Step 2 — Review + Regenerate
- Review and edit Pinterest Title and Description.
- Review Board, Tagged Topics, Keywords, and Alt Text.
- Use individual Regenerate buttons when only one field needs another draft.
- Use Regenerate All when you want a complete new set.
- Review generated text carefully and adjust it so it accurately matches the pin, destination, audience, and brand voice.
- Click Continue to Prepare.
Step 3 — Prepare + Upload
- Check the current pin details and readiness information.
- Use Prepare for Pinterest Upload when the pin is ready.
- The app exports the active PNG and prepares the publishing text.
- The compact upload helper shows Title, Description, Destination URL, Board, Tagged Topics, and Alt Text with individual Copy buttons.
- Use Open Create Pin to open Pinterest's create-pin page, or Pinterest Login when sign-in is needed first.
- In the Windows desktop build, Pin Traffic Studio positions the Pinterest browser window beside the upload helper so both remain visible. Copy and paste each field manually into Pinterest.
- Use Restore Main App to return to the maximized Pin Traffic Studio workspace after popup mode.
Advanced Export Options
- Internal Pin Name: Gives the pin an internal campaign name.
- Planned Posting Date: Optional publishing metadata. Planner occurrences are managed separately in the Planner.
- Status: Optional Wizard/export metadata. It is separate from each Planner occurrence's Posted / Not Posted status.
- Publishing Notes: Stores notes such as board choice, seasonal timing, or manual upload checks.
- Copy Publishing Pack: Copies the current pin's publishing information.
- Export CSV / Export Active Pin Text: Exports Wizard metadata without requiring a full campaign image ZIP.
Each campaign pin keeps its own Pinterest Wizard details. In a multi-pin campaign, select and prepare pins one at a time. Pin Traffic Studio prepares and assists the upload workflow; publishing remains a manual Pinterest action.
11. Smart Generator
The Smart Generator drafts Pinterest-oriented text from the information entered in the Wizard. Generated text remains editable.
Recommended generation workflow
- Complete Topic / Product and audience information.
- Choose purpose, goal, tone, description style, and CTA.
- Use Use Pin Text if the design headline and supporting text should influence the metadata.
- Generate Title, Description, Board, Keywords, Tagged Topics, and Alt Text as needed.
- Review every field in Step 2.
- Edit manually or regenerate only the fields that need improvement.
- Generate Title: Drafts a Pinterest title.
- Generate Description: Drafts benefit-focused Pinterest copy.
- Generate Board: Suggests a board name.
- Generate Keywords: Suggests relevant keyword phrases.
- Generate Alt Text: Drafts descriptive alt text.
- Regenerate: Replaces only the requested generated field so manually edited fields can stay untouched.
12. Save, Load, Import & Export
Use the Campaign Library for everyday saved work on this computer. Use Campaign Backup for a portable editable copy that can be archived, transferred, or recovered later. The Editor keeps import and export actions inside two compact dropdown menus.
| Control | Use it for |
| Save | Updates the current campaign record in the Campaign Library, including designs, images, layer changes, Pinterest details, Planner dates, reminders, and the active campaign name. |
| Save as New | Creates a separate saved copy in the Campaign Library. Use this when you want to keep the old version and continue with a new version. |
| Load / Load Saved Campaign | Opens the Campaign Library so you can choose which saved campaign to continue. Only one campaign opens in the Editor at a time. |
| Campaign Library → Delete | Removes a saved campaign from this computer when you no longer need it. It does not delete the currently open in-memory campaign. |
| Unsaved Changes status | Shows when the open campaign has edits that are not saved yet. The app warns before risky actions such as loading another campaign, returning to the gallery, importing a backup, or closing/reloading. |
| Import → Import Custom Templates | Imports a previously exported custom-template library. |
| Import → Import Campaign Backup | Opens a portable editable campaign backup file. |
| Export → Export Active Pin as PNG | Exports the current 1000 × 1500 pin image. |
| Export → Export Active Pin Text | Exports text and metadata for the current pin only. |
| Export → Export Campaign as ZIP | Exports all campaign pin PNGs together inside one ZIP file. |
| Export → Export Campaign CSV | Exports campaign publishing data and metadata in spreadsheet-friendly form. |
| Export → Export Campaign Text | Exports text and metadata for every campaign pin. |
| Export → Export Campaign Backup | Creates a portable editable campaign backup for transfer, recovery, or archiving. |
| Copy Publishing Pack | Copies the active pin's Pinterest publishing fields for manual use. |
Safe backup routine
- Click Save while working to update the Campaign Library.
- Use Save as New when you want to create a separate version instead of overwriting the current saved record.
- At important milestones, open Export and choose Export Campaign Backup.
- Keep the backup file somewhere you can find later.
- When the campaign is finished, export the active PNG or the complete Campaign ZIP.
- Export CSV or text files when you want separate publishing records.
Simple rule: Save and Load are for the app's Campaign Library on this computer. Export Campaign Backup is the safer editable file for archiving, transfer, and customer-support recovery.
13. Custom Templates
Custom templates are reusable design layouts. They are different from saved campaigns.
Save a reusable custom template
- Edit a campaign pin until the layout is worth reusing.
- Click Save as Custom Template.
- Complete the custom-template save process.
- The saved design becomes available as a reusable template option.
- Start a future campaign from that template and replace text and images for the new project.
- Import Custom Templates: Imports a previously exported custom-template library.
- Export Custom Templates: Downloads the custom-template library for backup or transfer.
- Rename / Delete: Use the management controls on custom-template cards when available.
Simple rule: Save keeps the current campaign. Save as Custom Template keeps a reusable design layout for future campaigns.
14. Troubleshooting & Best Practices
- Text has no visible handles: Confirm that the correct text layer is selected and that the layer supports direct canvas resizing. Use the Text size controls when needed.
- Text will not move: Select the correct text layer first. Some templates use special template-specific text layers.
- Panel moves but its text stays behind: Choose Move Panel + Text Together or group the connected layers.
- Grouped elements do not move together: Confirm the correct group is selected, not just one child layer.
- Image moves inside the frame instead of moving the frame: Switch to Move Frame + Photo Together.
- Photo disappears or crops badly: Use Fit, then adjust zoom and photo position again.
- Layer was removed by mistake: Click Restore Deleted.
- Partial word styling looks wrong: Re-select the exact words in the text box, then apply size, colour, bold, or italic again.
- Background colour is hard to see: Large images or panels may cover most of the background. Try Template Default or inspect the panel/image coverage.
- Cannot select a panel over a full background image: Click the panel edge or select the Panel layer in Layers. Foreground panels should take priority over large background images.
- Campaign Library will not close: Use X or Cancel. If the popup stays open, save a Campaign Backup and restart the app.
- Saved list is too long: Open Load / Campaign Library and use Delete on campaigns you no longer need.
- Drag and drop does not move a Planner pin: Drag the occurrence card itself, hover over another calendar day until the day highlights, release, then confirm Yes, Move Pin.
- Planner is empty: Select a campaign pin in the Editor and click Add to Planner, or open the Planner and click Add Campaign Pin.
- Need to post the same pin again: Click Add Campaign Pin, choose the same pin again, then assign a new date. Previous Planner history stays intact.
- An occurrence was removed: The campaign pin still exists. Use Add Campaign Pin to create a new occurrence whenever needed.
- A campaign pin was removed: Full campaign-pin removal also deletes every Planner occurrence linked to that pin. Use Remove Occurrence when you only want to remove one date.
- Reminder does not appear: Check that Planner reminders are enabled globally, the occurrence is Not Posted, Remind Me is on, the date/time is still in the future when scheduled, and the Windows desktop app is running or hidden in the tray.
- Closing the app seems to leave it running: When future reminders are pending, the Windows app hides to the system tray so reminders can still fire. Use the tray menu's Quit Pin Traffic Studio command to fully exit.
- Reminder window will not close with X: This is intentional for an active persistent reminder. Choose Pin Now or Dismiss.
- Unsaved Changes warning appears: Click Save to keep the current campaign in the app. Choose Continue only if you are happy to leave, load, import, or close without saving those edits.
- Campaign missing after closing the app/browser: Try Load Saved Campaign. If storage was cleared or you moved computers, use Import → Import Campaign Backup.
- Upload helper is visible but the main app is hidden: Use Restore Main App after copying/uploading the required Pinterest fields.
- Pinterest browser covers its bottom controls: Use the current desktop build, which leaves additional bottom clearance when positioning the Pinterest window beside the upload helper.
- Need one specific instruction: Use Help Search and try a short keyword such as reminder, planner, drag, group, image, text, Pinterest, backup, or export.
